“In this programme, we explored the ways in which rural life has changed and show how the British village has become a patch of suburbia.
I grew up in suburban sprawl in Australia and know how miserable it is. Suburbia is a bad idea. And it’s a bad idea which the British have fallen for.
Local towns and cities like Cambridge are all expanding outwards and our precious countryside is being sacrificed to build new houses like never before.
And it’s all quite unnecessary.
So I am going to suggest a rather unpopular but to me entirely persuasive alternative which will dramatically reduce the amount of land we use up.”
